The Last of Us is pushed back to a June release

Sony has confirmed that the new Naughty Dog title called The Last of Us has been delayed. The delay will see the title moved back an additional five weeks to a new worldwide release date of June 14th. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as everything to this point has been about the title being on track for release.
The survival horror title is apparently being delayed by what Naughty Dog claims is its need to set a very high quality bar for every aspect of the game; and the developer wants to make sure that the title raises the bar and lives up to the very high internal standards of the developer.
With the delay, this will see The Last of Us ship the week of E3, and it is hard to say what the expected impact will be on all of the other Sony announcements of the PS4 and the titles to go with it. Both Sony and Naughty Dog say that the decision to delay the title was a difficult one, but that it was better than compromising the original vision they had for the game.

Doritos Crash Course 2 is headed to Xbox Live Arcade, according to an Xbox Marketplace listing.
The first game in the series - a kind of endless runner advergame with avatars - hit at the tail end of 2010 and, to the surprise of everyone, wasn’t completely crap. So y’know, someone out there might be excited about it.

Xbox 360 To Surpass The Wii's UK Sales Record

Nintendo's console set to lose its UK crown
Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has topped 8 million consoles sold in the UK to date, and is now on track to surpass Nintendo Wii's sales record in the region. This would secure the system's position as the UK's number 1 selling console.
But that incoming PlayStation announcement on February 20th could intrinsically effect how Xbox 360's momentum holds up — as could the Wii U's growth, for that matter.
Here's what Jon Grimes, Microsoft's regional boss, had to say about the news:
Ten years ago, to think we would be the leader in our second generation is a achievement.
Our job is not to get lost in the industry chatter, but to ensure that the consumers going into stores, going online, still experience Xbox. The announcement is important for the industry, but it is also important to remember who is buying right now.
Four times as many 360s than Wiis were sold in 2012 according to retail research agency GFK Chart-Track. Previously, Nintendo UK had confirmed that 8 million Wii consoles had been sold in the UK by Christmas 2012. Now Xbox 360 looks to overtake Wii's subsequent sales figures in a 'number of weeks', according to MCV.
The Xbox 360 has been knocking around since late 2005, which is quite some time as far as console generations go.
As staggering as these figures may be, it's worth keeping in mind that the Wii was released a full yearafter the 360 in most parts of the world and has since been replaced by the Wii U. Meanwhile, a successor to the Xbox 360 is still yet to appear.

THE REASON MICROSOFT SAY NO TO BUY SEGA

Not all that long ago, the three powerhouses that were at each others throats as it pertained to video game dominance were not Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, but Nintendo, Sony, and Sega.
Right as Microsoft was about to step into the ring was when Sega was showing signs of serious weakness. For a while it was rumored that MS was going to purchase Sega, as their means to enter the console business in a quick and easy manner.
And it made a lot of sense on a number of levels. At the very least, it would have been given them instant access to a plethora of IPs that has proven name and money value, and an immediate inside track into the Japanese marketplace, which at the time, still reigned supreme.
And for Sega, it gave them the edge as it pertained to hardware, which was always their Achilles' heel, with the Sega CD, 32X, and Sega Saturn being the prime examples.
Though in the end, according to Joachim Kempin, a Microsoft employee from 1983 to 2003, and speaking to IGN, it was a deal that was ultimately nixed by the man who founded MS himself, Bill Gates. Why? He just didn't have any faith in the Sega brand at that point:
"There were three companies at that point in time, I think this was [Sony,] SEGA and Nintendo. There was always talk maybe we buy SEGA or something like that; that never materialised, but we were actually able to license them what they call Windows CE, the younger brother of Windows, to run on their system and make that their platform.
But for Bill [Gates] this wasn’t enough, he didn’t think that SEGA had enough muscle to eventually stop Sony so we did our own Xbox thing.
There were some talks but it never materialised because SEGA was a very different bird. It was always Sony and Nintendo, right? And Nintendo had some financial trouble at that point in time, so Sony came out with the PlayStation and bang! They took off, and everyone else was left behind."
The funny thing is that Sega’s next system, the Dreamcast, corrected every wrong that every previous piece of Sega hardware was guilty of. Except it came loaded with a second operating system, the aforementioned Windows CE, that cause more trouble than it helped. Yet by that point, the writing was on the wall for Sega.
Meanwhile, MS developed their own console, the Xbox 1, which was the beacon that helped to invigorate west game development that is clearly thriving today.
Though it helps that they were luck enough to steal a key developer and their promising IP… that being Bungie and Halo 1… from Apple, who had hoped to turn their G4 Macintosh into a gaming powerhouse (but were clearly not very serious about it). And Microsoft was never able to get a foothold in Japan, not that it really matters at this point perhaps.

Painkiller on PS3 and Xbox 360 'not a straight PC port'

Talking to PlayStation Universe about its upcoming first-person shooter Painkiller Hell & Damnation, publisher Nordic games and developer Farm 51 have spoken of the challenges of porting its fantasy horror series over to Xbox 360 and PS3 for the first time.
When we asked about the challenges the studio has faced in bringing Painkiller to console, Wojciech Pazdur, Project Lead at The Farm 51, told us that they had to “fight with memory limitations and some other performance capabilities,” but the biggest challenge was “to tweak up controls and game pacing (including AI behaviours) to make it enjoyable on consoles.”

Reinhard Pollice, the Producer at Nordic Games, was also keen to point out differences between the PC and console versions, confirming that a lot of work has been done to polish and tweak the game for its PS3 and Xbox release.
“It’s not a straight port,” Reinhard told PSU.
“At the beginning of development it was clear we would also aim for consoles and therefore we organized content creation in a way that it also feels like a balanced experience on console. We paid respect to that in the field of controls, general gameplay, difficulty, enemy AI and game progression. In addition, we polished a lot of small details more toward consoles and even did some new and exclusive console unlockables. Furthermore, there is a unique map for every platform (i.e. we have one exclusive map for PS3, one for X360, and one for PC).”
Painkiller was released on PC in October 2012 and received an average review score of 65 percent on Metacritic. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the fantasy horror shooter are due for release on April 5, 2013.
