Black Ops II for PS3 will include texture install

Black Ops II for PS3 will include texture install to save on Blu-ray drive wear

Treyarch's David Vonderhaar confirmed Tuesday that while PS3 owners won't be able to fully install Call of Duty: Black Ops II to theirPlaystation 3 hard drive, they will be able to install all of the game's textures.
According to Vonderhaar, the Playstation 3 does not see "any significant performance" gains when Black Ops II is installed to the hard drive because the game uses pre-cache just like the first. However, "PS3 folks" told Treyarch that the amount of playtime they put into a game like Black Ops II results in wear and tear on the console's Blu-ray drive.
The solution is to include a "Install Textures to HDD" option for the PS3 to reduce the amount of reading from the game disc. "It's a non-trivial amount of HDD space to install all the textures," Vonderhaar explained on the Call of Duty forums. "I don't want to get into exactly numbers because anything can, and does change during development."
Call of Duty: Black Ops II releases to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on November 13.
