Microsoft Reveal Tablet Gaming Intentions With New Studio
While Microsoft’s launch of the much-anticipated tablet/laptop hybrid product Microsoft Surface is due to launch at the end of next month, the company are already setting their sights on the future of the market, as they revealed the planned opening of a ‘dedicated tablet gaming studio’ to be located in London (England).

Planned to be used for the purpose of making games for the Windows 8-powered tablets, the centre will open in November under the charge of Lee Schuneman, formerly a production director at English studio Rare (a company most notable for game franchises such as Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Pinata, Goldeneye 007, and Kinect Sports), with roles for other key leading staff members on the development team now being advertised.
Schuneman said of launching the studio, and of the potential of the Microsoft Surface for gaming purposes: “Adding a fourth UK-based studio to the incredible roster of talent already in place not only increases our in-region studio presence, but will allow Microsoft Studios to explore the many creative and business opportunities that developing new games and entertainment experiences on Windows 8 tablet devices and platforms will afford.”
It is currently unknown whether or not the studio will be used to produce games exclusively for the Microsoft Surface and Windows 8, or if the games would potentially be made available to users of rival devices and non-tablet

Set to be sold as compatible to Xbox 360 integration through Microsoft SmartGlass, will the colourful versatile device soon have a range of colourful and well-received games to match, or is the idea of using the devices (including the ‘budget’ version) for potentially high-quality games one which could lower the overall speed and power of the product?
