Wii U will support "a full-on three terabyte hard drive" thanks to USB storage support, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed.
Addressing concerns over the upcoming console's seemingly small 32GB internal Flash storage capacity, the executive stressed that the platform holder is taking a decidedly open approach to expanding that memory.
Much like the PS3, Wii U will allow for memory expansion via USB, whether that be Flash or otherwise.
Fils-Aime told Engadget: "You can plug in a full-on three terabyte hard drive if you want. I'll love you as a digital consumer."
He explained that, with memory prices continuing to drop, Nintendo saw little reason to tie its console down in what's an evolving hardware space.
"The reason we did it that way is that the cost of that type of storage memory is plummeting. What we didn't want to do is tie a profit model to something that's gonna rapidly decline over time. We'll let the consumer buy as much as they want, as cheaply as they want," Fils-Aime said.
Last week Nintendo confirmed a November Wii U release date for the US and Europe, with theUS Wii U price set at $299 for the Basic model and $349 for the Premium one.
At UK retail the Wii U price currently lies at around £250 for the Basic unit and £290-£300 for the Premium one.
