Platinum: Without Nintendo, There Would Be No Bayonetta 2
The announcment of Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U sent shockwaves through the gaming world, causing lovers of the original to cry foul and forcing Platinum Games to publish a statement which insisted that the release was not an attempt to snub existing fans.
Card-carrying Otaku may wish to look away now, as the developer has admitted that without Nintendo, the sequel wouldn't be happening at all - not even on Xbox 360 or PS3.
Speaking to The Verge at the recent Tokyo Game Show, executive director Atsushi Inaba said:
Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes.We are not viewing this as a change of platform. We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U.
So there you have it. Without Nintendo and the Wii U, Bayonetta's story would have been limited to a single game.
