Xbox 360 dashboard update details are here, say hello to Internet Explorer

The newly released Xbox 360 dashboard update can be downloaded now, and here are some details about all the fresh features that will be included in it. Apart from the new Xbox Music service, another one of its highlights is the Internet Explorer integration which finally brings full-fledged web browsing to the console. The Xbox SmartGlass feature however will be doled out post the release of Windows 8 which is scheduled to take place on October 26.

First and foremost, the entire UI of the dashboard has received a refresh. The updated layout now contains more tiles, a combined TV and Movies channel and a Sports destination feature which will only be available in the US. Internet Explorer for Xbox comes with support for HTML5, so basically, the entire web browsing experience on PCs can be had now on the console.
The new design will also proffer recommendations and ratings on Xbox Live content. While recommendations will be based previously viewed content, things viewed by friends and stuff that is popular throughout the Xbox community, ratings will be user-based as well as those from Rotten Tomatoes. A new pinning feature will enable gamers to personalize their dashboards by saving their favorite movies, TV shows, games, music, videos and websites on their home screens.
The Zune Video Marketplace gets named as Xbox Video, and the search trait which recently received Kinect support also gets new additions. And of course, the new Xbox Music service has also been included in the latest Xbox 360 dashboard update. Gamers waiting to get their hands on the Xbox SmartGlass feature will have to wait until October 26 for another small update.
