Nintendo, in its quarterly financial reporting provided some market analysis that goes deep into the software and hardware sales of its competitors, Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Nintendo’s report reveals some interesting bits of information, which really isn’t all that shocking or surprising.
Nintendo has a habit of hiring a bunch of research firms across the globe to pull software and retail hardware sales figures for the company on an annual basis. It’s a rather expensive endeavor, considering even the US’s pre-canned NPD report costs thousands of dollars.
Europe is notoriously a tough territory to capture sales figures due to obvious reasons. There are market research firms such as GFK Chart-Track (European version of NPD), which collects data from many of the European countries, but not all of them. Every year, Nintendo commissions research firms like GFK Chart-Track, from 14 different territories spanning: “the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland.”
According to the report, software sales wise it appears that the PS3 is dominating the charts with nine titles occupying the top 20, while the Xbox 360 only has three titles and Nintendo has five Wii titles.
