XBOX LIVE REWARDS PROGRAM OFFERING CASH BACK FOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Rumors of Microsoft experimenting with Xbox Live rewards offering Microsoft Points have been around since last year. It appears that Microsoft is ready to roll out this program to the general audience.
Ever wished that you could make some money back by being an achievement whore? It looks like your pleas have been heard as Microsoft is rolling out a new initiative as part of Xbox Live Rewards. Xbox Live Rewards Gold Members will categorize players into three tiers – Contender, Champion or Legend.
To be even considered as a Contender, you must have a Gamerscore of between 3,000 to 9,999 and 10,000 to 24,999 for Champion and over 25,000 for Legend.
According to the official page [viaCVG ], gamers who have acquired between 3,000 and 9,999 Gamerscore achievements will receive a gift during the player’s birthday month. Apparently, this gift will average around $.25 cents.
In addition, gamers who have acquired more than 10,000 and 24,999 Gamerscore achievements will get one percent back in rebates on total purchases during the month for use on Xbox Live Marketplace. Users who have exceeded 25,000 will earn two percent back.
In even smaller print, Microsoft notes that users may not earn more than 30,000 MS Points back during the offer period without mention of what that duration would be. After digging through the conditions, it appears that the offer period is eight months ending in June 30, 2013.
In other words, members cannot earn more than $375 in total during that period. However, I wouldn’t worry too much about that as it would mean you would have to spend around $2,500 per month on Xbox Live purchases to even make back $50 bucks to reach that cap. Although, on the flip side if you do make a $60 purchase you can receive $.60 cents to $1.20 back depending on your Gamerscore tier.
Its really a smart plan on Microsoft’s part as the more simple gamers will probably spend more money and time to reach the next tier in hopes of earning a few cents.
