With a plethora of new games hitting our consoles in the coming weeks, there’s never been a better time to be a gamer.
The hugely anticipated Assassin’s Creed 3 is due out in a little over a week, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be with us in mid-November.
With high quality titles likes these, the current generation of consoles is giving gamers more than enough to be getting on with.
But that doesn’t stop the tech rumour mill from speculating over when we’ll see the likes of the Xbox 720 and PS4. The new wave of consoles begins with theNintendo Wii U next month, which is only adding fuel to the debate over the Xbox 720 and PS4 release.
Xbox 720 and PS4 in 2013?
All manner of possible launched dates have been thrown around, from later this year (pretty unlikely now, to say the least) to 2015 (also pretty unlikely, at least that’s what we hope).
According to Matt Edmunds, COO of Stainless Games, we could be seeing the next generation of consoles sooner rather than later.
“Next year is probably the right time for new consoles,” he told tech website Trusted Reviews recently.
It is an interesting revelation, and would tie-in with rumours that the next-gen Xbox is due for a 2013 launch. The PS4, on the other hand, could still be quite a way off.
No Sony PS4 until 2015?
Fears were raised that we wouldn’t see the next-gen Playstation until 2015 or even 2016, after Sony said it will be supporting the PS3 until 2015.
These fears could be largely misplaced though, as support for one console doesn’t mean another can’t come out – there is still support for the PS2, after all.
Sony won’t want to be too far behind Microsoft either, so if the Xbox 720 gets a 2013 release then so could the PS4. Having said that, new PS3 models have just been released – showing that Sony is clearly not done with this generation by a long shot.
