The Last of Us is pushed back to a June release

Sony has confirmed that the new Naughty Dog title called The Last of Us has been delayed. The delay will see the title moved back an additional five weeks to a new worldwide release date of June 14th. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as everything to this point has been about the title being on track for release.
The survival horror title is apparently being delayed by what Naughty Dog claims is its need to set a very high quality bar for every aspect of the game; and the developer wants to make sure that the title raises the bar and lives up to the very high internal standards of the developer.
With the delay, this will see The Last of Us ship the week of E3, and it is hard to say what the expected impact will be on all of the other Sony announcements of the PS4 and the titles to go with it. Both Sony and Naughty Dog say that the decision to delay the title was a difficult one, but that it was better than compromising the original vision they had for the game.

Painkiller on PS3 and Xbox 360 'not a straight PC port'

Talking to PlayStation Universe about its upcoming first-person shooter Painkiller Hell & Damnation, publisher Nordic games and developer Farm 51 have spoken of the challenges of porting its fantasy horror series over to Xbox 360 and PS3 for the first time.
When we asked about the challenges the studio has faced in bringing Painkiller to console, Wojciech Pazdur, Project Lead at The Farm 51, told us that they had to “fight with memory limitations and some other performance capabilities,” but the biggest challenge was “to tweak up controls and game pacing (including AI behaviours) to make it enjoyable on consoles.”

Reinhard Pollice, the Producer at Nordic Games, was also keen to point out differences between the PC and console versions, confirming that a lot of work has been done to polish and tweak the game for its PS3 and Xbox release.
“It’s not a straight port,” Reinhard told PSU.
“At the beginning of development it was clear we would also aim for consoles and therefore we organized content creation in a way that it also feels like a balanced experience on console. We paid respect to that in the field of controls, general gameplay, difficulty, enemy AI and game progression. In addition, we polished a lot of small details more toward consoles and even did some new and exclusive console unlockables. Furthermore, there is a unique map for every platform (i.e. we have one exclusive map for PS3, one for X360, and one for PC).”
Painkiller was released on PC in October 2012 and received an average review score of 65 percent on Metacritic. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the fantasy horror shooter are due for release on April 5, 2013.

PS3 is number one in hardware and software sales in Europe: 2012 and 2011

The PS3 is number one in console and game sales in EuropeNintendo, in its quarterly financial reporting provided some market analysis that goes deep into the software and hardware sales of its competitors, Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Nintendo’s report reveals some interesting bits of information, which really isn’t all that shocking or surprising.
Nintendo has a habit of hiring a bunch of research firms across the globe to pull software and retail hardware sales figures for the company on an annual basis. It’s a rather expensive endeavor, considering even the US’s pre-canned NPD report costs thousands of dollars.
Europe is notoriously a tough territory to capture sales figures due to obvious reasons. There are market research firms such as GFK Chart-Track (European version of NPD), which collects data from many of the European countries, but not all of them. Every year, Nintendo commissions research firms like GFK Chart-Track, from 14 different territories spanning: “the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland.”
According to the report, software sales wise it appears that the PS3 is dominating the charts with nine titles occupying the top 20, while the Xbox 360 only has three titles and Nintendo has five Wii titles.

'Assassins Creed 3' interactive trailer, Steam release date November 23, 2012

The great trailers and information keep coming just ahead of the release of Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed 3 ”. There have been no shortage of trailers for fans to enjoy this month  but the latest one released today may be the best one of all.
The trailer is interactive and lets players get a taste of the game as they decide Connor’s path on the way to the assassination of Major Pitcairn. At several key decision points along Connor’s journey to complete the mission, a choice on how to proceed is presented. Fans also get to decide how to dispatch a few red coats along the way.
It is a really entertaining taste of what is to come and Ubisoft did an excellent job of giving fans just a little bit of what is to expect without actually releasing a full demo. Check out theinteractive trailer  and complete your own pre-release assassination.
Assassin’s Creed 3 ” is still not available for pre-order on Steam, but should be coming along soon enough. The PC release is not until November 30, 2012 nearly a month after the console players get to play the game. In the meantime, the “Assassin’s Creed Pack” is currently available on Steam, which includes all the previous games at a significant discount. The offer ends tomorrow at 4:00 PM pacific.

Persona 4 Golden for PS Vita Gets English Trailer

Persona 4, when it launched for the PlayStation 2 back in 2008, was regarded as one of the best Japanese RPGs to come out in a long, long time. Fans loved the charm, the premise, the storyline, the length and the mechanics within the title. Atlus was responsible for developing the title and eventually bringing it to the States.
Now, Atlus is doing the same thing again with Persona 4 Golden for the PlayStation Vita. This is a remake of Persona 4 with remastered visuals, new personas, more vocal dialogue, new online features, collectibles and a whole lot more.
The trailer you see at the head of this posts represents a broad stroke over what you’ll be doing in the world of Persona should you elect to pick this game up. Sure, there’s dungeon crawling and turn-based battle mechanics, but there’s also a social code, going to school, meeting love interests and riding scooters.
Persona 4 is wonderful, really. And it’s one of the PS Vita games I’ve been looking forward to most since its initial announcement. Persona 4 Golden is set to ship on November 20th of this year.

Street Fighter X Tekken Vita Has a DLC Mixup?

For those looking to buy Street Fighter X Tekken for the Playstation Vita, you might want to hold off. In what appears to be a mix up, the packaged DLC, which includes the 12 new characters for the PS3 (Already unlocked for the Vita) and 38 alternate costumes, is actually the preorder DLC (Alt costumes for the DLC characters). If that isn’t strange enough, preorder codes seem to unlock the 38 alternate costumes, but they appear to be limited to the Playstation Vita only and neither code includes the 12 new characters for the PS3.
Before you jump to wild conclusions, the DLC packs seem to have the wrong icons, which means it might be an issue on Sonys end. In either case, you might want to hold off redeeming your codes before this thing gets sorted out.

Sony Accidentally Lists Street Fighter X Tekken Swap Costumes For Free

While many gamers are disappointed with how the Vita codes worked out, it seems that wasn’t the only error made with Street Fighter X Tekken. Currently the 38 character swap costume bundle is listed for free on the PS3 (Sorry Vita users), which will also unlock the costumes for the Vita version.
Sadly you will still need to buy the additional 12 costumes for the DLC fighters, but it’s better than nothing. Also I would make sure to act fast, as there is no telling how long this will last.

PS3 hack is said to be irreversible with the leak of “LV0″ PS3 encryption keys

PS3 hack is said to be irreversible with the leak of “LV0″ PS3 encryption keys
Sony has worked hard at keeping thePlayStation 3 from being hacked and unfortunately, the “LV0″ PS3 encryption keys have been leaked. This leaves the system vulnerable and allows it to be fully hacked. This hack is said to be irreversible and and irreversibly hacked for good.
This will allow the user to "full custom firmware access, alternative OS support, and the possibility of rolling back the more recent firmware versions," shares Sankaku Complex .
Eurogamer  has released some information that can fully explain the threat that the leak of these encryption keys poses for Sony:
The release of the new custom firmware – and the LV0 decryption keys in particular – poses serious issues.
While Sony will almost certainly change the PSN passphrase once again in the upcoming 4.30 update, the reveal of the LV0 key basically means that any system update released by Sony going forward can be decrypted with little or no effort whatsoever.
Options Sony has in battling this leak are limited – every PS3 out there needs to be able to decrypt any firmware download package in order for the console to be updated (a 2006 launch PS3 can still update directly to the latest software).
The release of the LV0 key allows for that to be achieved on PC, with the CoreOS and XMB files then re-encrypted using the existing 3.55 keys in order to be run on hacked consoles.
So just how did LV0 come to be released at all? The original hackers who first found the master key – calling themselves “The Three Tuskateers” – apparently sat on its discovery for some time.
However, the information leaked and ended up being the means by which a new Chinese hacking outfit – dubbed “BlueDiskCFW” planned to charge for and release new custom firmware updates.
To stop these people profiteering from their work, the “Muskateers” released the LV0 key and within 24 hours, a free CFW update was released.
“You can be sure that if it wouldn’t have been for this leak, this key would never have seen the light of day, only the fear of our work being used by others to make money out of it has forced us to release this now,” a statement from the hacker group says.
While, from a company standpoint, this is devastating news, there is a positive side to this issue. It was better to have happened late in the system's lifespan, rather than much sooner. Sony will have the release of the PlayStation 4 ready to go soon enough and the problem could have been a lot worse earlier on.

PS3 only exclusive Assassin’s Creed III Benedict Arnold content announced

PS3 only exclusive Assassin's Creed III Benedict Arnold content announced Assassin’s Creed III is the most ambitious looking game in the series and its set to hit the store shelves October 30th. Ahead of its release Ubisoft is taking the gloves off on the secret PS3 exclusive content that centers on Benedict Arnold.

Ubisoft’s scriptwriter for Assassin’s Creed III, Matt Turner sat down with the PlayStation Blog  to reveal what this content will be about. Apparently, this extra content will span four main missions for the story arc and will revolve around Benedict Arnold’s “secret plot to betray West Point and sabotage the American Revolution.”

The content is said to last hours and will offer up side missions that span the “mundane” tasks to flushing out Loyalist spies as well as working undercover for Benedict Arnold on George Washington’s orders.

Turner said that his favorite part in the Benedict Arnold mission arc was the opportunity to put in historically documented dialog that was reproduced word-for-word in some of the conversations.

In addition to the PS3 only content, those who pick up Assassin’s Creed III: Liberationfor the PS Vita will receive some cross-benefits with additional missions that take place in New York along with some rare weapons and items.
Its looking like Assassin’s Creed III for the PS3 may be the definitive version to get.
PSB: On a final note, what might have happened if General Washington hadn’t learned of Benedict Arnold’s treason and put an end to it?
A simple fact is that the Hudson River was the single most strategic body of water during the American Revolution. It essentially split the colonies in two, so whoever controlled the river controlled the supply lines. And West Point was by far the most heavily fortified area during the war for this very reason. Where the fort was built, the river narrowed and made a small ‘S’, allowing enough room for only one tall ship to pass through at a time. The Patriots built a massive chain on rafts floating across the water stopping any ship from making its way up because they were so outmatched in terms of the navy. It was the only way they could hope to hold it – and it worked.
A large portion of Revolutionary historians contend that if West Point had been captured by the British, and the chain destroyed, the Patriots would have lost the war.

Interesting and different ad campaigns are not new to Sony. Remember the "Michael" campaign last year?
This time round the company released three separate teaser trailers over several days, resulting in a rather entertaining commercial for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Many of us may have guessed that the three teaser trailers were for PlayStation's latest brawler - and congratulations if you were one of them! Sony announces God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta

Sony had recently revealed information about the collector’s edition and pre-order bonuses for God of War: Ascension. Sony has now announced that the multiplayer beta for the game will start this winter on the PlayStation Blog . According to Sony, anyone who is subscribed the PlayStation Plus can take part in the beta. Along with this, Sony has also released a new trailer for the game.

The trailer features Zeus – the King of the Olympians – who you will have to align with to be bestowed upon with powerful magic abilities that you can use against your enemies in the multiplayer. The trailer also gives a short glimpse of the multiplayer that God of War: Ascension is set to feature.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that God of War: Ascension will have multiplayer. So far only one gameplay mode has been revealed that has eight players battling it out against each other in two teams of four. After one team has been dominated by the other, the team that controls all points, gains access to certain weapons that will help them take down a gigantic AI controlled foe. In this case, it was one unfortunate Cyclops that met his end in a brutal way via some very painful looking finishers.

The God of War series is the story of Kratos, who was a soldier from Sparta. Kratos was the servant of the gods and worked primarily to defeat the enemies of Olympus and run away from his past. The first game begins with Kratos declaring that "The gods of Olympus have abandoned me" and flinging himself over the tallest cliff in Greece; the rest of the game details how and why this happens. The game mostly takes place in the temple of Pandora where Kratos must find the power to stop Ares from destroying Athens.
Beta is set to begin in winter this year
Beta is set to begin in winter this year

The second game begins with Kratos having taken up Ares’ spot on the Greek pantheon as the god of war. Kratos leads his Spartan army in a bloody conquest across Greece without heeding the people saying he’s gone out of control. Eventually, Zeus gets angry and takes matters into his own hands. The game starts with the death of Kratos and mostly takes place on the Island of Creation, where the Sisters of Fate work the Loom of Fate and can change his destiny. In a series of events, Kratos ends up using the Loom to go back in time to try to defeat Zeus, and in a cliffhanger ending, uses the Titans to wage war against Olympus.

The third game begins with Kratos scaling Mount Olympus and waging war against the gods using the Titans. After killing Poseidon, Kratos is betrayed by the Titan Gaia and is thrown into the underworld, but escapes and begins to climb Mount Olympus, killing everyone who stands in his way, including Hades, Perseus, Helios, Hercules, Cronos, Hephaestus and Hera, among others. The game ends with Kratos finally defeating Zeus and leaving the world in chaos.
