Gearbox confirms new Borderlands 2 classes are in the works

Welcome to Borderlands 2

A game developer’s work is never done, it seems, and even though Gearbox Software managed to launch the outstanding Borderlands 2 last month, followed up by a brand new slice of campaign-oriented downloadable content and a fifth playable character, it’s been confirmed that all-new character classes are currently in the works for the game.
Responding to a query on Twitter regarding plans for future character classes in Borderlands 2, Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford said:
“yes - we’re working on it.”
Short and sweet, which means there’s no wiggle room or chances to back down from the statement, Mr. Pitchford!
New character classes for Borderlands 2 will go hand-in-hand with the three remaining pieces of planned campaign DLC, the first of which was Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty.
What new character classes do you think would be a good fit for Borderlands 2? What kind of adventures do you hope to go on in the new DLC? Set your minds to ‘Dream’ and let us know below.
What’s that? You haven’t played Borderlands 2 yet? Then get yourself over to Lisa’s excellent review of the open-world, over-the-top first-person RPG shooter and find out what you’re missing!

THIS WEEK'S NEW GAMES

THIS WEEK'S NEW GAMES

Winning races in Ridge Racer involves sequences of ludicrous, screaming power slides, while in Burnout you're actively encouraged to crash into and destroy other vehicles.

In F1 2012, these activities would be respectively foolhardy and grounds for instant disqualification. In videogame terms, this is racing for pencil-necks, emphasising braking distances and knowledge of the sport's myriad rules over nitrous-fuelled abandon. But it's still a sport about driving savagely fast cars and F1 2012 is the first game to convey an impression of their horrifying speed and dangerousness. After a perfectly pitched tutorial, you start a career that pits you against the familiar axis of Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton in championships that become increasingly tense. The ability to rewind time several times per race alleviates frustration; it looks great throughout, and the sense of accomplishment on winning is palpable. Best F1 game ever.
Codemasters, £24.99–£39.99
Borderlands 2 welcomes you back to the mutant-infested desolation of planet Pandora with a big, goofy sense of humour. "Don't have too much fun," say weapons vending machines as you leave and an early mission temporarily changes the name of one of the game's beasts from "bullymong" to "bonerfart". That lack of sophistication is about right for a game with 2m guns and a lunatic cornucopia of lethal accessories before you've even got started on the vehicles. Your choice among four character classes heavily influences how you approach the game's chaotic gunfights, which are at their most potent in a group of four human players; fighting solo against waves of brutal robots and freaks can be a tense and lonely experience. Its cel-shaded looks complement a cartoon-style plot but action is marred by the need to stop and squint at every gun you encounter to see if it's a tiny bit better than yours.
2K Games, £39.99–£49.99

BODERLANDS 2 WILL BE AVAILABLE ON PSN STORE ON LAUNCH

Borderlands 2 will be available on PSN Store on launch

The release date of Gearbox’s Borderlands 2 inching closer, and there’s good news for people who like to stay at home and play games. According to Gaming Roots , the PlayStation 3 version of Borderlands 2 will be available for digital purchase on the release date. Usually, it takes some time for games to make it on to the digital store, but this is a big step in the right direction for those who like to purchase their games from the comfort of their homes

Gearbox’s role playing shooter might get a release on the PlayStation Vita. In an interview with IGN, head of Gearbox Randy Pitchford said, “If some other studio was capable and could be trusted by us, and by a publishing partner, and by Sony, and someone wanted to invest in making that happen? I think Sony should step up and make that happen.” Pitchford will be meeting with Sony on the matter soon. This could possibly mean a PlayStation Vita version for Borderlands 2. And if we’re making wishes, we could also wish for cross-platform co-op between the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3.

Earlier this month, Gearbox released a trailer for Borerdlands 2 that introduces you to the changes between the first and second games, along with helpful hints help you in becoming more badass. The trailer is narrated by Sir Hammerlock, who gives an introductory tour of Borderlands 2 as only he can. The trailer shows many details about the game, such as the name of the Big Bad of the game, Handsome Jack. The trailer also points out how much of a badass you are. It shows how you can become more badass by levelling up your character, getting new and interesting weapons out of the 87 bazillion the game has, and how you can attain new levels of badassery by getting things such as relics and class mods, which change how certain skills of your character work.

The game had recently gone gold. The developers of the game are now working on downloadable content (DLC) of which there will be four. The planned DLCs will be decently-sized campaign add-ons with new stories and environments. The developers also mentioned a Season Pass for Borderlands 2 that may be available later and will include all four add-on campaigns. The Season Pass will be priced at 2,400 Microsoft Points for the Xbox 360, and $29.99 on the PC and PlayStation 3. This would mean that buying the Season Pass will net you a 25 percent discount over buying each add-on campaign individually.

Borderlands 2 will be released for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC on September 18, 2012. The DLC add-on campaigns for the game will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Steam and PlayStation Network.
